David Krňanský is undoubtedly one of the prominent representatives of our contemporary abstract painting. As an established artist with his inherently unique approach, he continues to successfully provoke and disrupt traditional academic approaches to painting. Even the current exhibition, in which the artist somewhat ventures into the unknown and presents a completely new cycle, is no exception.

In this exhibition, we can see for the first time a coherent cycle of a diametrically different approach, with which he initiates a new episode of his work. Undoubtedly, this is a departure from previous minimalist and predominantly geometric tendencies, leaning more towards expressive, gestural abstraction. He predominantly works with intuition and spontaneity, where seemingly random compositions emerge in the layered and condensed space of the painting. In many respects, he builds upon the original principles of action painting and abstract expressionism. However, his work is also contemporary, closer in expression to the current global abstract painting. Despite a significant departure from his previous work, he managed to retain and transfer recognizable characteristics of his style into this new position.

Working with bold and rich colors, intuitive sense of composition, and playing with deliberate negligence. In the paintings, traces of fragments of his typical shapes still occasionally appear, but more as final traces and references to his previous work. In his new position, David Krňanský primarily indulges in the immediate creative process. He seeks and tests the boundaries of aesthetics, the mutual tension between beauty and ugliness, between chaos and order.
